Leaf Cleanup and Leaf Removal

Leaf Cleanup and Leaf Removal in Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Aurora and Newmarket

We rake, blow, bag and haul away fall leaves from lawns, garden beds, driveways and corners you cannot reach, so your yard goes into winter clean and your lawn comes back healthy in spring.

Crew clearing autumn leaves from a front lawn with a leaf blower

Every October, the maples, oaks and ash trees across York Region drop a season’s worth of leaves in a few short weeks. One mature silver maple can cover a whole front lawn, and by the time the last tree on the street lets go, the first layer is already wet, matted and starting to smother the grass underneath. Green Crest Landscaping clears it all: front yard, backyard, side yards, garden beds, window wells and the drift that collects against the fence.

We serve homeowners in Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Aurora, Newmarket and Thornhill, and we book visits from early October until the ground freezes or the first lasting snow arrives.

Why leaf cleanup matters for your lawn

Leaves left on the lawn over winter do more harm than most people expect. A thick, wet layer blocks light and air, traps moisture against the grass and creates the conditions for snow mould, the grey or pink matted patches that show up in March when the snow melts. Leaves also hold moisture against foundations, clog downspout outlets and catch basins and make walkways and steps slippery. In spring, a lawn that went into winter under leaves usually needs more raking, more seed and more time to recover.

A clean yard in late fall is the simplest way to get a better lawn next year.

What our leaf cleanup includes

  • Lawn clearing with blowers and rakes, front and back, including slopes and side yards.
  • Garden bed cleanup by hand so leaves are lifted out of shrubs and perennials without damaging plants.
  • Hard surfaces: driveways, walkways, patios, decks and steps blown clean.
  • Window wells, fence lines and corners where leaves pile up and hold moisture.
  • Bagging in yard waste bags ready for municipal collection, or haul-away so nothing is left at the curb.
  • Repeat visits for properties with heavy tree cover, so the lawn is cleared again after the last trees drop.

How a leaf cleanup visit works

  1. Quote. Call, WhatsApp or send photos of your yard. We ask about lot size, the number of large trees and whether you want bagging or haul-away. You get a written quote before any work starts.
  2. Scheduling. We book your visit for when most of your trees have dropped. Heavy-tree properties often get two visits a few weeks apart.
  3. Clearing. The crew blows leaves out of beds, corners and hard surfaces toward the lawn, then gathers everything into manageable piles.
  4. Bagging or haul-away. Leaves go into yard waste bags for collection, or onto our truck if you chose haul-away.
  5. Final pass. Walkways, driveway and steps are blown clean, and the crew does a last walk around before leaving.

When to book leaf cleanup in York Region

Most trees in Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Aurora and Newmarket drop the bulk of their leaves between mid October and mid November. Oaks hold on longest and can drop into late November. The best plan for most yards is one visit once the majority of leaves are down, before the first lasting snow. If your property has many mature trees, an early visit in late October and a final visit in mid to late November keeps the lawn from being smothered in between.

Leaf cleanup is our busiest service in the fall, and the last two weeks before snow fill quickly. Booking in early October gets you the dates you want.

Bagging, collection and haul-away

York Region municipalities run their own yard waste programs, and rules differ by city. Most accept leaves in paper yard waste bags or open rigid containers on scheduled collection days, and plastic bags are generally not accepted. Collection usually runs in the fall until early December. If you want the leaves gone the same day, or you have more bags than your collection limit allows, our haul-away option takes everything with us. Check your city’s yard waste calendar for local dates and limits.

Leaf cleanup by city

Markham

Mature maples in Unionville and Markham Village, younger street trees in Cornell and Berczy Village. Many Markham lots have interlock walkways and garden beds that need hand clearing.

Richmond Hill

Our home base. Oak Ridges and Bayview Hill properties often back onto wooded areas, which means a lot of leaves late in the season.

Vaughan

Woodbridge, Maple and Kleinburg have larger lots and big trees. Kleinburg in particular can need two visits.

Aurora and Newmarket

Established neighbourhoods with tall canopy trees, plus newer subdivisions. Leaves often collect against fences and in window wells.

Thornhill

Older ravine-side streets with heavy tree cover on both the Markham and Vaughan sides of Yonge Street.

Mistakes to avoid with fall leaves

  • Waiting until every leaf is down. If the first layer sits wet for weeks, it mats and damages the grass. Clear heavy coverage in stages.
  • Leaving leaves in garden beds near the house. A light layer in a bed can protect perennials, but thick wet piles against siding and foundations hold moisture and invite pests.
  • Blowing leaves into the street. Leaves in the road clog storm drains and can cause local flooding during fall rain and spring melt.
  • Using plastic bags. Most local collection programs do not accept them.
  • Raking on a ladder or roof. Leave eavestroughs and roofs to someone with the right equipment.

Who books leaf cleanup with us

Busy families who would rather spend fall weekends elsewhere, seniors who want to stay safe off rakes and ladders, homeowners getting a house ready to list, landlords and property managers with rental homes, and anyone whose trees simply produce more leaves than one person can handle. Many of our leaf cleanup customers also book snow removal for the winter at the same time.

Leaf cleanup questions

How much does leaf cleanup cost?

The price depends on yard size, the number of mature trees, how many bags of leaves there are and whether you choose bagging or haul-away. You get a written quote before any work starts. Send a few photos by WhatsApp for the fastest estimate.

Do I need to be home during the cleanup?

No. As long as gates are unlocked and pets are inside, the crew can complete the work while you are out.

Do you clean garden beds too?

Yes. Leaves are lifted out of beds and shrubs by hand. For full bed cutbacks and winter prep, choose our fall cleanup.

Can you come back after the last trees drop?

Yes. Properties with heavy tree cover often book two visits so the lawn is not covered for weeks between cleanups.

Do you take the leaves away?

Yes, haul-away is available. Otherwise we bag the leaves for your municipal yard waste collection.

Can I mulch leaves into the lawn instead?

A light layer of leaves can be mulched with a mower and left as natural fertilizer. A thick layer cannot. If you can no longer see grass through the leaves, they need to be removed.

What happens to your leaves

Leaves can be bagged in paper yard waste bags for your municipal collection, or taken away, as agreed in your quote. York Region towns collect yard waste on set days in the fall, so check your own municipality’s schedule if you want bags at the curb. A thin layer of shredded leaves can be left on garden beds as mulch, but a thick, wet mat on the lawn smothers the grass and leads to snow mould. See how to prevent snow mould on an Ontario lawn.

Leaf cleanup for rentals and commercial properties

Wet leaves on walkways, steps and parking areas are slippery, and tenants and customers notice an untidy property. Landlords and property managers can book a fall leaf cleanup and winter snow service together. See fall cleanup and snow plans for rental properties, commercial snow removal and questions to ask before hiring a leaf removal service.

Before your leaf cleanup visit

Move patio furniture and planters out of the way, leave gates unlocked and tell us about new plantings, bulbs and low garden lights. If you also want the driveway marked for winter, mention it when you book so it is done at the same visit. Send photos of the yard by WhatsApp to 647-617-4020 for a written quote.
