Snow plow truck clearing a residential driveway after a snowfall

Winter in York Region rarely gives you one clean storm. It gives you a dusting on Monday, freezing rain on Wednesday and twenty centimetres on Saturday night, followed by a city plow that seals your driveway with a wall of heavy, wet snow. Our crews work through that cycle all season so you do not have to watch the forecast, dig out at six in the morning or worry that someone will slip on your walkway.

This page is the starting point for every snow service we offer. Choose your city or the type of property below, or call us and we will tell you what fits your home or site.

Snow removal by city

Each city has its own street layouts, plow routes and housing styles, so we plan routes city by city. Markham is our busiest area, with Richmond Hill and Vaughan close behind.

What our snow service includes

  • Plowing of driveways, private laneways and parking lots once snowfall reaches the trigger depth agreed for your property.
  • Shovelling and clearing of front walkways, steps, porches and side paths that a plow cannot reach.
  • Windrow clearing, the packed ridge the city plow leaves at the end of your driveway.
  • Salting and ice control on walkways, steps, entrances and lots, with product chosen for the surface.
  • Snow stacking placed where it will not block sightlines, drains or neighbours, and away from lawns and garden beds where possible.
  • Return visits during long storms so snow does not pack down into ice.

How a snow visit works

  1. Site walk and quote. We look at your driveway or lot, note obstacles such as curbs, interlock, garden beds and basketball nets, and agree where snow will be piled. You get a written quote before any work starts.
  2. Trigger depth set. We agree the snowfall depth that starts a visit, and whether salting is automatic or on request.
  3. Storm monitoring. Our team watches forecasts and radar through the night so crews are on the road when snow is falling, not hours after.
  4. Clearing. Plows handle open areas, crews hand clear steps and walkways, and the windrow is cleared on routes that include it.
  5. Salt and check. Ice control goes down where it is part of your plan, and crews check entrances and steps before leaving.
  6. Follow-up. If the city plow passes again or freezing rain follows, we return as agreed in your plan.

Residential or commercial: what is different

A home needs a clear driveway before the morning commute, a safe path to the front door and the windrow gone so you are not trapped. A business needs more: parking stalls open before staff arrive, accessible spaces and ramps cleared first, entrances salted all day and a record of when service took place. We run separate routes for homes and commercial sites so a long plaza job never delays a driveway that was promised by morning.

For businesses and property managers, we document every visit with date and time, which helps when you need to show that your walkways were maintained. Read more on our commercial snow removal page.

Salting and ice control

Snow you can see is only half the problem. Freeze-thaw cycles turn meltwater into black ice on steps, ramps and shaded walkways, and that is when most slips happen. Salting at the right moment, ideally before refreeze, prevents ice from bonding to the surface. We apply salt to walkways, entrances, steps and lots as part of a seasonal plan or on request after a storm. For new interlock, concrete under a few years old or areas near sensitive plants, we discuss options at the quote so the product suits the surface.

Plan ahead: when to book

The best time to arrange snow removal is in the fall, before the first storm. Route space fills up once winter starts, and a seasonal plan means you are on the list from the first snowfall. October and November are when most homeowners in Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan book, often at the same time as their leaf cleanup or fall yard cleanup. Clearing leaves before snow also protects your lawn from mould and keeps drains open when the snow melts.

What affects your snow removal quote

  • Size and shape of the driveway or lot, and whether a plow can work it or it needs hand clearing.
  • Walkways, steps and side paths included in the service.
  • Trigger depth, for example clearing after 5 cm versus after every snowfall.
  • Salting, whether automatic with every visit or on request.
  • Service window, for example cleared before 7 a.m. for commuters or before opening hours for a business.
  • Per-visit or seasonal billing. See seasonal contracts for how a full-winter plan works.

Snow removal questions

Do you clear the windrow the city plow leaves at the end of my driveway?

Yes, windrow clearing can be included in residential plans. Tell us at the quote so it is part of your route, since the city plow often passes after our first visit.

Do you offer salting on its own?

Yes. Salting can be added to any plan or booked after a storm for walkways, steps, driveways and commercial entrances.

Which cities do you cover?

Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Newmarket, Aurora and Thornhill. If you are just outside these areas, call 647-617-4020 and ask.

Do you work overnight?

Snow does not wait for business hours, and neither do our crews. Commercial routes are commonly cleared overnight and residential routes before the morning commute, depending on when the storm ends.

Can I book a single visit?

Yes, one-time visits are available after a storm, subject to route availability. Seasonal plan customers are served first during heavy storms, so a seasonal plan is the safer choice if you rely on a clear driveway.

Will the plow damage my interlock or lawn?

We mark edges, curbs and garden beds before the season and set plow blades to suit the surface. Point out anything fragile during the site walk so we can plan around it.

Snow removal near you

Every city we serve has its own page with local neighbourhoods, housing types and what changes the plan there: Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Thornhill, Aurora and Newmarket. Older streets with narrow and shared driveways, new subdivisions with townhomes, and estate lots with long, sloped driveways all need a different approach, and the city pages explain it.

Protecting your property under the snow

Snow hides curbs, garden beds, interlock edges, lights and sprinkler heads. Before the ground freezes, mark the edges of the driveway and anything near it with snow stakes, so nothing is hit by a blade or a shovel. Keep snow piles off shrubs and hedges, which can split under heavy snow and brown from salt spray. Point downspouts away from the driveway and walkway so meltwater does not freeze across them overnight. See how to mark a driveway with snow stakes, how to protect shrubs and hedges from snow and salt and how to prevent ice on a driveway and walkway.
